Homework is their work

I am the parent to a sophomore and a 7th grader. It can be difficult for me to determine what is my role in their homework and school work. It's so easy for me to be drawn into micro- managing their responsibilities. I came across an article from Parent Cue about homework (see link below). It gave me some food for thought and I wanted to share it with you.

Christmas: Gifts from the Heart

This year for Christmas, St. Albert School will be collecting and donating “Gifts from the Heart” to St. Vincent de Paul. St. Vincent de Paul converts the Family Success Center into a mini mall filled with new donated toys, clothing, sports equipment and all kinds of treats for parents to shop for their families. Every new gift helps to make a difference. Please see the following list and if you would like to participate, bring your gift to school by Monday, December 3.

  • Preschool: Gift cards: Target, Walmart, Fast Food, Kroger

  • First grade: Boys shirts

Parent Tech Talk: Internet Safety

Thursday, November 15th 6:30 to 8:30 pm

As a ministry of our parish, we would like to offer an opportunity for parents to ask questions and discuss the current digital landscape that we all live in -- specifically how this landscape affects our children and our students. Technology can be an incredible force for good, but as parents, we still need to guide our children to become good digital citizens. Parents therefore need to be aware of the questions and challenges that today's children face.

The seminar will consist of a short presentation and then group discussions on tips, tricks and case studies pertaining to our children growing up with technology. Topics will range from toddlers using YouTube to the teenagers getting into social media.

I will be facilitating the presentation on Thursday, November 15th 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Students can attend, but the session will be more oriented towards parents. Child care is not provided.

NOTE: You do not have be a St. Albert parent to attend. All are welcome.

--- FROM YOUR SPORTS MINISTRY ---

Winter Sport Gate & Concession Duty

We once again need your help to support our St. Albert Vikings. Each family is required to sign up for one slot during the season. This means if your child is playing basketball, archery or swimming you need to work a shift in the St. Albert gym. These volunteer hours greatly reduce the cost of all sports at St. Albert.

Please sign up for an available date/time to work the gate or concession stand. First come, first serve and more slots will be added as schedules are confirmed! Take care of your obligation before the holidays are upon us!

When you sign up or sign up a sub, please note the name of the athlete(s) so you will receive credit for working. After December 7th, the remaining slots will be randomly filled with families who have yet to sign up. Thanks so much for your support.

If you wish to have a sub work your shift, please refer to either the sub list located on the Sports Ministry link or contact Kelly Logsdon at kelly.lewis.logsdon@gmail.com You will be responsible for paying the sub. If you don't find a sub and do not show up for your shift, your child will have to sit out a game. If you do find a sub and the sub does not show up, your child will not be penalized.

If you opted out and paid the $20 on SI play when you signed your child up for a sport this winter, I have your name and no action is required. Thanks!

Viking Spirit Wear
