Holy Week

As we started Holy Week yesterday with the celebration of Palm Sunday, I hope you are as excited and humbled by the awesome experience we get to observe and participate in this week. What a blessing for us to talk about and teach our children about Jesus’ grace and faith in his walk to his Father during this Holy Week.

Our prayer service on Holy Thursday will be at 9:30. We will also have Stations of the Cross this Friday, April 19, at 8:30. Our eighth grade students will do a wonderful and prayerful representation of the suffering Jesus went through for us.

During this Holy Week, please take some extra time to recognize God in our daily lives, and thank him for our many blessings.

Father, thank you for my life. Thank you for the blessings you pour out on me every day, even though I often fail to see them. Open my eyes to the grace that surrounds me and the beauty of my life.

Have a very blessed Holy Week and a Happy Easter!

Debbie Abbott

Assistant Principal

Good Friday

This Friday, April 19, is Good Friday. This is an early dismissal (12:30) day. The cafeteria will be open. We will be observing Good Friday throughout the school: dimmed lights in the school, silence in the halls and cafeteria. (Although classrooms and offices will not be silent, they will be quiet.)

We would like to invite all families to come see our eighth graders present The Stations of the Cross on Friday morning at 8:30. We are so excited to see their presentation and would love for you to join us.

Cell Phone Survey

How many hours per day do St. Albert Middle School Students use their smart phones?

Ms. Carroll's class, 7A, has been discussing the effects of smart phone usage in young teens. In today's age, smart phones and social media can consume the time that students spend before and after school, affecting both physical and mental health.

7A surveyed all students in 6th-8th grade at St. Albert the Great and found that they spent on average 3.92 hours per day on their smartphones!!

This brings up the question: How much time do you and/or your children spend on your cell phone?

Summer Sports Registration

Summer Sports Registration Now Open!

Spring Gate and Concession Workers

We once again need your help to support our St. Albert Vikings. Each family is required to sign up for one slot during the season. This means if your child is playing or played boy's volleyball, soccer or softball you need to work a shift at the St. Albert outside field. These volunteer hours greatly reduce the cost of all sports at St. Albert.

Please sign up for an available date/time to work the gate or concession stand. First come, first serve!

When you sign up or sign up a sub, please note the name of the athlete(s) so you will receive credit for working. After April 23, the remaining slots will be randomly filled with families who have yet to sign up. Thanks so much for your support.

If you wish to have a sub work your shift, please refer to either the sub list located on the Sports Ministry link or contact Kelly Logsdon at kelly.lewis.logsdon@gmail.comYou will be responsible for paying the sub. If you don't find a sub and do not show up for your shift, your child will have to sit out a game. If you do find a sub and the sub does not show up, your child will not be penalized.

If you opted out and paid the $20 on SI play when you signed your child up for a sport this spring, I have your name and no action is required. Thanks!

Through 8 weeks of summer overnight camp, as well as school programming in the spring and fall, YMCA Camp Piomingo provides experiential learning opportunities and encourages campers to develop both life skills and character education. Multiple studies have shown that the activities and atmosphere at summer camp not only prevents summer learning loss but also creates an outdoor classroom that taps into academic success.

We want all students to have the benefit of these experiences, so we are reaching out to see if there is an opportunity to work more closely with your school. I have proposed some ideas below and would appreciate it if you could let me know if you are the person we would work with or if there is someone else I should contact at your school. We are hoping to impact as many campers, families, and schools as possible.
