A Checklist for a Successful School Year

Happy Labor Day! I hope you had a chance to rejuvenate this weekend, We have had a busy two and a half weeks since school started. We are learning our routines and schedules at school. Some of us have taken the MAPS test and others are preparing to start. I know that once school starts at my house everything changes. We are not home as much. There are games to watch and meetings to attend and homework to make sure is completed as well as just taking care of daily household tasks. I have to remind myself to not get caught up in the whirlwind of everything else and put my family and myself first. If I am rested and relaxed then I can be there for everyone else. I hope you make yourself a priority as well.

Let’s talk about carpool. I know the dreaded carpool, right? We are a very big school, which means we have a lot of students that have to get home. We break it up into three different runs to try to be as efficient as possible and get you out of here as quickly as possible. We have improved greatly since the first few days. But there are still a few things that can be improved. Remember that our first concern is the safety of the students, so always be on the lookout for students when you pull into the lot. We also want to move you out quickly so please be in your car, everyone buckled, and ready to go when we blow the whistle and move the cones.

  1. Please remain in the lane that you pulled into once you have come around the corner of the school. Please do not pull out to get into the other lane so you can go ahead and leave first.
  2. Once traffic has stopped please get out of your car and find your student quickly. I know that it is heavily populated during first carpool and sometimes hard to see them but I ask that you walk to their class and find them.
  3. Please go back to your car quickly.
  4. Remember that once the whistle has been blown the rope will go up and students will no longer be able to go with you until the next carpool. You will need to move through this carpool and pull around to the second carpool.
  5. Please do not move the cones. I understand that everyone wants to get out of the carpool line but moving the cones isn’t fair to the others who are waiting as well. If you need to leave school quickly for an appointment please call the school office to make arrangements to pick your child up in the office at dismissal time.
  6. Lastly, if you are in the second carpool and you choose to go get your child during the first carpool you still will need to wait until the second carpool is finished. You will not be allowed to go on.
  7. If you have a different person picking up your student make sure they know how carpool runs.

Thank you for reading all of these reminders. I know that it will continue to improve as we get into the routine.

Water Step Collection

We will be collecting new and gently used shoes for two weeks beginning August 24th through September 8th for WaterStep. Please send in any donations you may have with students and they can drop them off in the boxes located in the hallway outside of their homeroom. Donations can also be dropped off in the box located in the Gathering Space of the Church.

By donating your new and gently used shoes to WaterStep, you’ll help fund safe drinking water projects all over the world — projects that help to save hundreds of thousands of lives each year. In addition to funding water projects, donated shoes keep hundreds of tons of waste out of our landfills. We accept gently used athletic shoes that are free of mold/mildew. Shoes are sold to an exporter and funds received help bring clean water to those in need.

--- FROM YOUR SPORTS MINISTRY ---

Fall Sports Gate and Concession Worker Sign-ups

New Slots are now added!

We once again need your help to support our St. Albert Vikings. Each family is required to sign up for one slot during the season. This means if your child is playing football, volleyball, flag football, cross country, K-2 soccer, cheerleading or powder puff football you need to work a shift in the St. Albert gym. These volunteer hours greatly reduce the cost of all sports at St. Albert.

If you wish to have a sub work your shift, please refer to either the sub list located on the Sports Ministry link or contact Kelly Logsdon at kelly.lewis.logsdon@gmail.com You will be responsible for paying the sub. If you don't find a sub and do not show up for your shift, your child will have to sit out a game. If you do find a sub and the sub does not show up, your child will not be penalized.
