Monday Memo
Week 7 | September 27-October 1, 2021
Letter from the administration
I don’t know about you, but I love Tik Tok. I have found so many crafts I want to do, many exercise routines I have yet to try, and even cleaning hacks that I am going to get to one day. But there are videos out there that are promoting hurt and negativity.
It has come to our attention that there is a challenge going around on Tik Tok that is promoting vandalism and inappropriate behavior from the students. You may already be aware of this but I wanted to share the monthly challenges with you. We have already had a few things destroyed in the JR high and intermediate bathroom. This may be a catalyst for a family conversation. I know many kids love social media but as with all things parental supervision is needed as well as using it in moderation.
August- sleep in and be late
September- mess up a toilet/ vandalize a restroom
October- smack a staff member on the backside
November- kiss your friend’s girlfriend at school
December- deck the halls and show your b**ls in the school hall
January-jab a breast
February- mess up school signs
March- make a mess in the courtyard or cafeteria
April- grab some “eggs,” theft or stealing
May- ditch day
June- flip off front office
Thank you,
Stacie Short

covid protocol:
Parents of a vaccinated student may send a copy of their child's vaccination card to tpark@stalbert.org or to the school office to the attention of Tatum Park. If your vaccinated child is exposed to a positive case, you will still be contacted if they are within the 3-foot radius of the positive case. Vaccinated students do not need to quarantine. This is optional but would greatly help us in speeding up the process dealing with exposures and quarantining. Thank you!
New Year, New Protocols!

**New Change!**
Although we highly encourage you to make student appointments after school, we are going back to our original policy of allowing students to return to school after their appointments during the school day. We appreciate your cooperation with this throughout our year last year, and hope that the decrease in interruptions throughout the school day will continue as much as possible.

Accelerated Reader
This year we have decided to implement the Accelerated Reader program as part of our school's curriculum. The purpose of Accelerated Reader is to "Guide, Engage, Practice and Grow" all things that are valuable lessons for each of our students.
Guide: Personalized goals help students stay focused on the factors that matter most for reading growth—and help us monitor their progress and provide feedback to keep learners on track.
Engage: Individual reading recommendations use students’ interests and reading levels to suggest “just-right” titles—or students can self-select from over 200,000 choices!
Practice: “Just reading” transforms into high-quality reading practice that fuels growth: Reading quizzes monitor comprehension, while literacy skills and vocabulary quizzes extend student learning and build skills mastery.
Grow: Detailed reports provide insights into students’ progress. Paired with Renaissance Star Reading®, track students’ mastery of focus skills aligned to state-specific learning standards.
We have already begun to administer STAR reading tests so that we can make attainable goals for our students to succeed in each of these areas. Our hope as we implement this program is to develop a love of reading but also a set of reading skills that is vital to student success.
What we do not want AR to be is a reward for those who love reading and a punishment for those who don't. In the past I have seen AR programs fail due to this philosophy. Instead our approach will be using this as a tool and resource to intervene where the student needs assistance and to keep students accountable in reaching their goals.
We are very excited about this program and where it will take us both now and in the future. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me @ bturner@stalbert.org.
Let me know if there is something you would like me to change!
