Catholic Schools Week

Jan. 26 - Feb. 1, 2020

National Catholic Schools Week began yesterday, January 26 - February 1. But, have you ever wondered why we are celebrating this? Catholic Schools Week celebrates the contribution that Catholic education provides to our children, to our Church, and to our communities. Most of our graduates continue their education in Catholic high schools, then graduate to go on to college.

We are acknowledging the many successes that the graduates from Catholic schools across the nation have attained. We also appreciate the dedication and sacrifices that our teachers and staff make since their love of teaching keeps them in the Catholic schools. So, every year we celebrate Catholic schools because of their valuable mission of providing Catholic education and their service to the Church.

Several activities have been planned by the Student Council for our students this week. I am sure they will enjoy the different activities. We don’t have to wait until Catholic Schools Week, but this week especially, let’s give thanks and celebrate the great accomplishments of our Catholic schools. Let’s also find within ourselves a willingness to support those efforts with our prayers.

The evening will include an array of tastes and flavors with flights of craft beer, wine, bourbon and food. Guests will also enjoy dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions and more. Proceeds benefit the Steven Vanover Foundation which is currently funding Norton Cancer Institute's new genomics lab technology which will help provide personalized treatment options for cancer patients in our community.

The event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at Mellwood Art and Entertainment Center. Purchase your tickets now at FlightsToFightCancer.org.

The Foundation was founded in 2015 after St. Albert parishioner and graduate, Steven Vanover ('04), lost his life to a rare form of cancer. To this date, the organization has raised nearly $500,000 for cancer research and local scholarships. Learn more and donate at StevenVanover.org.

Free Webinar: Raising Preteens and Teens with and for Confidence

Tuesday, January 28, 2020 | 2pm-3pm ET

With the push-me, pull-you nature of adolescence, how can parents feel confident that they are doing what they can to support their teens to create healthy relationships, work hard in school, and develop valuable life skills while resisting the high level risks they are exposed to? In the upcoming webinar, Jennifer Miller, M.Ed. will discuss how parents can better understand the developmental changes their children are undergoing to extend their empathy and patience. And we’ll dive into specific ways in which parents can act and react with social and emotional intelligence to grow their trusting relationship and model and cultivate the skills our teens need to become healthy, responsible, and independent.

Join us!

The End.
