Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas break and found some time for relaxation, fun, and time with your families. January brings us the beginning of many things: the beginning of the new year, the beginning of a new grading quarter which means a clean slate for behavior and a clean slate for academic grades. January also gives us a clean slate with God. Isaiah 1:18 says, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” As a school, we celebrated the sacrament of Reconciliation during Advent. This sacrament gives us a fresh start, fresh as white snow. We are all given this wonderful gift as well as the wonderful gift to start anew every morning we get up. I am thankful and excited to start all of these new beginnings with you! I wish you and your families all the best in 2019!

Meet Toby!

On December 2, 2018 Father Dave brought Toby home to live with the Harris human pack. Toby is a golden retriever who is currently eleven weeks old and weighs 22 pounds. His name comes from the Book of Tobit which literally means “God is Good.”

Father Dave has already identified Toby as a good Catholic dog because he likes wearing his St. Francis of Assisi dog tag and listening to the praying of the Rosary!

Inspiration for Toby started two years ago through parishioner Billy Zapp and his dog Major who make up a therapy dog team. Father Dave witnessed Billy and Major visit people in various Hosparus units as they encouraged and supported patients there. He discovered that most people light up when in the presence of a loving and gentle animal like Major and someone as pleasant as Billy.

With the Parish Life Complex now completed Father Dave wants to spend his personal time training Toby to be part of his therapy dog team. Once certified, they will visit various venues to encourage and give hope to those who are having a difficult time.
